Drums have a primal power all their own. They’re evocative of the rhythms that we all have within our souls. They set the tempo for all other forms of music.

Drums are an excellent first instrument to learn, as many aspiring young musicians have come to recognize. Drums give the aspiring students an ear for rhythm and timing, as well as the essential training in manual dexterity. It’s not nearly as easy as beating a stick on taut skin either! Drums are in themselves complex instruments consisting of snare, bass, toms, and cymbals, each one with its own distinctive sound that must be struck at just the right moment.

At Notespell Music and Arts Center, drums are a foundational instrument, but under the expert guidance of our teachers, they are also easy to learn. We start off our students with the basic patterns, gradually building them up to more complex combinations, and finally to their own repertoire ready to play with a band of their own.

Drums are a great way to start your kids on music. Our youngest student is all of four years old. We also have programs for teaching special children the instrument.

Notespell is also unique among music learning centers in that we offer drumshed sessions: training two or more drummers to beat their instruments in sync. It’s a sight to see!
